Should you wax a new snowboard?

I just bought a Nitro 159 snowboard from my local shop. It's summer, so there was a great sale, but the boards have been sitting there for a while. Should I have it waxed before I use it for the first time? I don't really want to buy the iron and everything to do it myself, I think I would get the shop to wax it. Also, if I should wax it, should I have it waxed now, in the summer, or should I have it waxed right before I plan to go snowboarding, in a few months? I only go snowboarding about 5 or 6 days a season, most being friday nights with a school ski and board club, will I need to have the board waxed more than once a season? Also, are there any other tips you would recomend to me to keep my board nice? I ride some park, but not much, it's an all-mountain board by the way... Thanks!!
